The path to where comedy king Kapil Sharma is today has been full of thorns. Recently he shared those dark pages of his life, which the world was unaware of. Kapil told how at the age of 36, he became a victim of depression and the situation became so bad that people assumed that his career was over. He also got emotional remembering his father and told that he misses his father while climbing every ladder of success.

In an interview given to ETimes, Kapil shared the ups and downs of his life and said, ‘Every phase had its own fun. Childhood was something different. As long as father was with me, those times were completely different. But after his passing in 2004, life seemed to have gone off track. Then TV gave me a second chance and things slowly started getting better. Then at the age of 36, I was so struck by depression that I broke down completely. People started saying that Kapil’s career is over now. But then I got married, the show started again and I again did more than 300 episodes.
Kapil Sharma cried a lot after getting a check of Rs 10 lakh
Remembering his father, Kapil said, ‘Yesterday never changes and those who are gone never come back. I still remember when I won the trophy of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge and got a check of Rs 10 lakh, I cried a lot. The only thought coming to my mind was that I wish father was here today. When my own show started, one night I was standing silently outside my house at 9 o’clock. TVs were on in every house of the entire society and sounds of people laughing were heard. I then thought how happy Papa would have been if he was alive. Although I remember him every day, but there are some moments which hurt my heart a lot.
Had reached Mumbai with the dream of becoming a singer
Let us tell you that when Kapil Sharma came to Mumbai from Amritsar, he had a dream of becoming a singer. But perhaps fate had something else in store. In 2007, he came into limelight overnight after becoming the winner of the comedy reality show ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’ (Season 3). After this, he continued his winning streak on the stage of ‘Comedy Circus’ and in 2013 started ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ on Colors TV under his own production house K9. Within no time, Kapil created such magic with his comedy that today he has become India’s most popular and successful comedian.
