Career started from Gujarati theater

Born on 8 November 1938 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh, Arvind Trivedi was interested in acting since childhood. After completing his studies, he started acting in theatre. Gujarati theater was very active during that period and along with Arvind, his elder brother Upendra Trivedi was also earning name in the world of acting. Both the brothers together gave a new identity to Gujarati theater and cinema.

Arvind Trivedi had worked in 300 films

Arvind Trivedi acted in approximately 300 films, which included films in both Hindi and Gujarati languages. The audience still remembers his characters in Gujarati films like ‘Jesal Toral’, ‘Kunwarbai Nu Mameru’, ‘Veer Mangada Wala’, and ‘Desh Re Joya Dada Pardesh Joya’.

‘Ramayana’ how i got into ,Ravana‘s role

In 1987, Arvind Trivedi had gone to audition for Ramanand Sagar’s ‘Ramayana’ with the hope of playing the role of a monk. But as soon as he spoke the dialogues, seeing his voice, face and expressions, Ramanand Sagar offered him the role of Ravana. This was the moment which changed the life of Arvind Trivedi.

“People consider me a villain.”

While on one hand he was climbing the stairs of success by working in ‘Ramayana’, on the other hand people were looking at him differently because he was recognized by the character of Ravana in every household. People considered him to be the real Ravana. Many were hesitant to even invite him to their homes. Arvind himself had told this in an interview. He laughingly said, “People consider me a villain, but in real life I am a very religious person.”

Actor has earned name in politics also

After the immense success of Ramayana, he entered politics. In 1991, he was elected Lok Sabha MP from Sabarkantha, Gujarat. He served in Parliament for five years as a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party. After this, in 2002, he was appointed the acting Chairman of the Board of Censors (CBFC), where he did policy work for Indian films.

Won Best Actor Award seven times

Arvind Trivedi received the Best Actor Award from the Gujarat Government seven times for his acting. He died of a heart attack on 6 October 2021. Hearing the news of his demise, his Ramayan co-stars, Arun Govil as Ram and Deepika Chikhlia as Sita paid emotional tributes.
